7. All About The Relationship.

Relations and Relatives : Relations are the crux of  every society across the globe. But in Marathi culture it has got a little bit more emotional  touch. And we have also to maintain a long chain of our relatives despite of our budget and time. In the marathi culture it is a social convention to provide utmost hospitality to our relatives and make them homely. Below I am giving translation form English to Marathi and  its pronunciation of Marathi word in English in front of it. Please do give your suggestions, if I mistake. Whatsoever, I have tried my best.

Relations [नाते-संबंध]: 

Relation = नाते =  Natay

Relatives = नातेवाईक= Nataywayik

Mother = आई= Aahyee

Father =बाबा  = Baba

Sister = बहीण = Bahin

Brother =भाऊ = Bhavu

Elder brother = दादा = Dada

Elder sister = ताई = Tai

Younger sister = लहाण बहीण= Lahan Bhahin

Younger brother = लहाण भाऊ = Lahan Bhavu

Grandfather = अाजोबा = Ajoba

Grandmother = आजी = Aji

Elder brother’s wife =वहीणी = Wahini

Daughter-in-law [son’s wife] = सून, सूनबाई= Suoon,  Suoonbai

 Son-in-law [daughter’s husband] =जावई, जावईबापू = Javai, Javaibapu

Husband’s father or Wife’s father = सासरे, साासरेबुवा = Sasray, Sasraybuwa

Husband’s mother or Wife’s mother = सासू, सासूबाई = Sasu, Sasubai

Sister’s husband or Son of aunt [i.e, son of father’s sister] = दाजी, भाऊ = Daji, Bhauji
Paternal uncle [father's brother] or Mother's brother-in-law = काका = Kaka

Aunt  [ wife of father’s brother ] = काकी =  Kaki

Aunt  [ father’s sister ] =आत्या=  Attya

Aunt [ mother’s sister ] = मावशी = Maushi

Maternal uncle [ mother’s brother] = मामा = Mama

Maternal aunt [ maternal uncle’s  wife] = मामी= Mami

Nephew [ sister’s son ] = भाचा = Bhacha

Niece [ sister’s daughter]  =भाची = Bhachi

Nephew [brother’s son] = पुतण्या = Putanya

Niece [ brother’s daughter ] = पुतणी= Putani

Brother-in-law =  मेहूणा = Mehuna

Sister-in-law = मेहूणी = Mehuni

Sister-in-law [ husband’s sister] = नणंद = Nanand

Man’s younger brother’s wife =भाऊजय = Baujai

Husband’s Brother = दीर= Deir

Wife of woman’s brother  = जाऊ=  Jawu

Son’s father-in-law or Daughter’s father-in-law = व्याही = Wyahi

Son’s mother-in-law or Daughter’s mother-in-law = व्याहीण= Wyahin

Husband of sister-in-law = साडू = Sadu

Boyfriend = मित्र =  Mitra

Girlfriend = मैत्रिण = Maitrin
